About the Event

The Emily Carr String Quartet present the opening concert of their 2026/27 season.

The concert features “Meditation on the Old Czech Chorale ‘St. Wenceslas’ Op. 35 by Josef Suk
and String Quartet Op. 132 in A minor by Beethoven. This program marks the beginning of a vibrant new chapter for the ensemble following its milestone 20th anniversary. Roots invites the audience on a musical exploration of heritage, identity, and solace.

“We are thrilled to partner once again with Christ Church Cathedral and welcome audiences back to open our new season,” Mügé Büyükçelen, the quartet’s first violinist. “The theme of ‘Roots’ grounds us in the timeless traditions of the string quartet repertoire while allowing us to look forward to the innovative musical journeys we have planned for the entire year.”
