Jonathan Goldman of Quartango joins the Emily Carr String Quartet in Astor Piazzolla's Five Tango Sensations for Bandoneon and string quartet. Also on the program are fugues by J. S. Bach and tangos and fugues by Piazzolla. Many of the arrangements of the Piazzolla tangos and fugues were done by Jonathan himself.

The "Cage 100 Festival" is a city-wide celebration of Cage's centennial with exhibitions and performances presented by the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Open Space, Victoria Symphony, and the University of Victoria that honour the work of the late composer, philosopher and artist. The ECSQ will perform Cage's "String Quartet in Four Parts" as well as String Quartet no.4, "Gondola" by Linda Caitlin Smith, "The Length of this Piece is not Arbitrary and Painting a Portrait of Glass" by Christopher Reiche and String Quartet No.1 "From the Salvation Army" by Charles Ives.

is taping "Why Music Works" a special edition of North By Northwest.
The Emily Carr String Quartet (ECSQ) is the house band as host Sheryl
MacKay joins music presenter June Goldsmith for a morning of laughs,
listening and learning about the life and times of the great composer.
In the first part of the show MacKay and Goldsmith explore Haydn's
fascinating life. In the second part using Opus 71 #2 in D Major,
Goldsmith and the ECSQ dissect and discuss what makes it work,
followed by a full performance of the piece.
